We believe that exposure to fine arts helps a student's overall ability to succeed in school.

Radford offers students many opportunities to explore and improve their creative skills through classes such as art, band, piano & theater. These programs allow students to encourage and explore their artistic sides and shine!

Every student at Radford, from DRS to 12th grade has the opportunity to take art classes. The classes start on basics for the elementary students and become more complex, moving into learning more advanced information as the students get older. They do more than drawings, students paint, work with printmaking, sculpture, graphic design, and many different styles of art. They also learn about artists that have influenced art throughout centuries. The art classroom environment is challenging, educational, and supportive.

The Radford Band was established in 2011. It began with 32 students from 5th to 12th grade. The band program has grown to over 75 students. All students in the 5th grade are given the opportunity to be in the band.

Radford School offers piano instruction for all students in grades 3rd and 4th. These students learn music theory, rhythm and basic piano playing skills. The students have piano class 2 times a week and perform a holiday recital and a recital at the end of the year. Learning music has been shown to improve academic levels and test scores.

The Radford Theatre program encourages students to see a different perspevtive then their own. We use techniques to learn about the humanity, psychology, motives and conflicts of characters in any given play. There are many factors that come into play when creating a character for the stage. Through character development, improvisation and team building exercises students recieve the fundamentals to performing on stage. If the stage is not for them, Radford also promotes technical theatre with a concentration in costume design. Students have the opportunity to sew by hand and on the machine. They are given the tools necessary to use a pattern and sew a costume for our Fall and Spring productions.
